Why This Route Is Different
A standard Golden Triangle tour shows you Mughal India. This one adds three things that don’t fit that story at all
- Mandawa - an open-air gallery of merchant Havelis, hand-painted with everything from Hindu mythology to steam trains and early aeroplanes, in a town most Golden Triangle itineraries skip entirely
- Pushkar - one of Hinduism's holiest towns, built around a lake said to have formed where Brahma dropped a lotus, ringed by 52 Ghats and over 500 temples
- Rawla Narlai - A restored 17th-century royal hunting lodge between Jodhpur and Udaipur, where the signature experience is dinner at an 11th-century stepwell, lit entirely by torches
None of these are detours. Each one adds a genuinely different layer to the trip art and craftsmanship in Mandawa, faith and ritual in Pushkar, and slow, storybook luxury at Narlai alongside the history and architecture of the Golden Triangle itself. The trip then closes in Udaipur not a hidden gem by any measure, but one of India’s most iconic cities, and a far more rewarding (and comfortable) final stop than backtracking to Jaipur.
Your 10-Day Journey, Day by Day
Arrive in Delhi and settle in before a day spent moving between eras — the Red Fort and Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, then Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, and India Gate, each representing a different chapter of the city’s history. Overnight in Delhi
Drive to Agra, visit the red sandstone Agra Fort, and see the Taj Mahal in the golden light of late afternoon — a monument that outdoes every photograph you’ve seen of it. Overnight in Agra.
Travel to Jaipur, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital, along the way. Arrive in Jaipur by evening. Overnight in Jaipur
A full day in Jaipur: Amber Fort by jeep or elephant, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and the astronomical instruments of Jantar Mantar. In the evening, shop Jaipur’s bazaars — this is the city for gemstones, block printed textiles, and traditional jewelry, so budget real time here if shopping is a priority
Drive north to Mandawa (approx. 4 hours), a Shekhawati town where wealthy merchant families once competed to build the most elaborately painted Havelis, Explore the frescoed facades and settle into a heritage haveli turned-hotel for the night.
A full day to go deeper than the main square — walk the lesser-visited lanes for Havelis most tour groups miss, meet local artisans still practicing traditional fresco and mirror-work techniques, and take an early evening camel cart ride through the town as the light turns gold. Overnight in Mandawa (night 2 of 2)
Drive to Pushkar (approx. 5 hours), arriving in time for the evening aarti (prayer ceremony) at the lake’s Ghats one of the most atmospheric moments of the entire trip, with hundreds of oil lamps set adrift on the water.
Visit the Brahma Temple, one of the only temples in the world dedicated to the Hindu creator god, then walk the 52 Ghats surrounding Pushkar Lake. In town, Pushkar’s bazaar is known for silver jewelry, semi-precious stones, and hand-woven textiles — a genuinely different shopping experience from Jaipur’s. In the afternoon, an optional camel ride into the surrounding dunes, followed by sunset from the Savitri Temple viewpoint above the town.
Drive toward Narlai (approx. 4-5 hours), stopping en route at Ranakpur Jain Temple one of the largest and most intricately carved marble temples in India, with over 1,400 individually engraved pillars, no two alike. Arrive at Rawla Narlai, a restored 17th-century royal hunting lodge, in time for the property’s signature evening: dinner beside an ancient stepwell, lit entirely by torchlight, with local music.
A short, easy drive today (approx. 2.5-3 hours) to Udaipur, often called the most romantic city in India. Spend the afternoon on Lake Pichola with a boat ride past the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir, and then explore the City Palace complex one of the largest in Rajasthan and the intricately carved Jagdish Temple nearby. Close the day with dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the lake as the palaces light up at sunset.
A relaxed final morning before a short domestic flight to Delhi, timed to connect with your international departure. Our team assists with your transfer to Udaipur airport and any final coordination in Delhi before you fly home.
Practical Note: we’d recommend booking international departures from Delhi in the evening or later, to comfortably allow for the Udaipur–Delhi flight and a buffer for any minor schedule changes.

Dream Day Tours Golden Triangle and Tiger Safari Tour is definitely worth booking! Review of Dream Day Tours - Golden Triangle plus Tiger Safari Tour This past June my wife and I traveled to India with one of my wife’s colleagues to visit her husband’s hometown in Assam, India. It was great seeing a part of India from the perspective of a family that lived there, but since this was my wife’s first time to India, we decided to book a tour to show her some other beautiful sites. And so, we booked a lovely tour through Dream Day Tours, which is based in Jaipur. It was called the Golden Triangle Tour with Tiger Safari. It was just the two of us on the tour, so Dream Day Tours catered everything to our needs and desires. To begin, we flew into Delhi and Dream Day arranged for a driver to bring us from the airport to the Welcomehotel by ITC in Dwarka. Excellent hotel with very good food. The next day, we started our tour with the driver that was assigned to us, Jeetu Singh. Jeetu was great and transported us to our various destinations for the entire tour. We were also provided with a local guide for Delhi, Aarif Sheikh. Aarif was an excellent guide. He gave us a lot of historical and cultural information and took us to Jama Masjid, which was a spectacular mosque built in the time of the Mughals in the 1600’s, and still used for prayer today. We also got a bicycle rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, which is a lively and colorful market nearby. We were also taken to a grand Sikh Temple and learned of the generosity of the Sikh’s to their pilgrims and temple visitors. We appreciated the visits to the monuments and museums that were made around the life and death of Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi. The next morning Jeetu brought us to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. We were met there by our guide Vipin. The Taj is spectacular, and basically was the only site we visited in Agra. Vipin brought us to various places to see the Taj under different views and at sunrise and sunset. We had total access to the Taj and its grounds, and Vipin, an amateur photographer took many beautiful and romantic photos of us with the Taj as a background. In fact, he took such a beautiful photo of us that we both use it as our most recent FB profile page. He definitely has talent as a photographer! On our way from Agra to Jaipur, Jeetu had us visit Fatehpur Sikri, which was the capital of the Mughal empire under Emperor Akbar in the 1500’s. This was certainly worth the visit. And we also stopped at a step well, which was a structure that was used historically to provide water to the inhabitants of the area. It was really different, fascinating, and ingenious! In Jaipur, the Pink City, we were again provided with a guide that was very versed in Indian culture and history, Mr. Raghuveer. He immediately brought us the Hawa Mahal, or Wind Palace, which is an incredibly beautiful structure overlooking a large busy square. We were again brought there by the Dream Day Tours owner, Ashfaq, in the evening, to see its beauty at night. Phenomenal! We had stressed that, besides seeing traditional tourist sites, we wanted to get an experience that showed us some of what really goes on in Jaipur streets, so Mr. Raghuveer took us to the flower market, where we were showered with flowers. This seemed especially appropriate for us since we had just celebrated our 40th anniversary. It was wild, and the flowers were beautiful, and an Indian friend of ours said it was like we were getting married! Then we visited the extraordinarily ornate and expansive Amber Fort, which was built in the 1500s by a Hindu Raj that had a political alliance with the Muslim Moghul Emperor Akbar. Beyond beautiful! Didn’t think that could be topped, but then we were brought to the City Palace, which was unbelievable in its majesty! Other things that made the trip a super experience were seeing a real snake charmer and having a hands-on interaction with an elephant, which was very weird, very exciting, and a little unnerving! We were definitely in India, far from home! And since we were so far, my wife wanted to go on a tiger safari, which we did at the Ranthambore National Park. We were lucky enough to spot some tigers in their natural environment, and we also saw other wildlife like bears, crocodiles, wild boars, a slew of peacocks and peahens, and other big birds and wildlife! It was all good, and Ashfaq at Dream Day Tours made it all possible for us by coordinating our itinerary, providing us with excellent guides, great hotels (with dinners and breakfasts included most days), and providing us with our beloved driver, Jeetu, who got us to every site and more, and then to the airport in ample time to catch our flight home! Thank you, Dream Day Tours!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

❤️Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Better than we could have imagined! This was the most well organised trip we could have asked for! Ashfaq and the team couldn't have done more to make the trip better - hotel was stunning, lifts to and from Safari on time (and aircon!) and the best Safari, 2 groups and 1 private ( we saw 7 Tigers). This was a trip tailored to us, made very special! Highly recommend Dream Day Tours if you want the best trip of a life time at a great price!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good Experience We had a great experience. My friend and I booked the trip just two weeks before arriving in India, and they responded quickly and made everything possible. We shared what we wanted to see, and they created a plan around it. We also had a fantastic driver who was very kind and always made sure we had everything we needed, including water, soda, and beer.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Saw Tigers and Crocodiles! We did 3 safaris, on the first two we saw lots of wildlife including monkeys, deer, hyenas, peacocks and other birds, but no tigers… And then on the third, we were lucky enough to see on four separate occasions a tiger casually strolling through its natural habitat. We got close enough to take good photos and one even walked straight past the Jeep! We also saw a couple of crocodiles by the lake which topped it off. Very enjoyable experience!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this different from a standard Golden Triangle tour?
A standard Golden Triangle tour covers Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur only. This route keeps all three, then adds Mandawa’s painted Havelis, Pushkar’s holy Ghats and temples, and a heritage stay at Rawla Narlai — three places that show a very different side of Rajasthan from its most famous cities.
What are the Havelis in Mandawa, exactly?
Havelis are large traditional mansions built by wealthy merchant families, mostly in the 18th and 19th centuries. In Mandawa, many are covered floor-to-ceiling in painted frescoes depicting Hindu mythology, royal processions, and even early trains and aeroplanes as merchants incorporated what they saw on their travels. Many havelis are still privately owned; some are open to visitors, others are best appreciated from the street.
Why Pushkar is considered a holy site?
Pushkar Lake is one of Hinduism’s most sacred sites, believed to have formed where the god Brahma dropped a lotus flower. The town is ringed by 52 bathing ghats and over 500 temples, including one of the only temples in the world dedicated to Brahma himself, making it a major pilgrimage destination alongside its appeal to travelers.
Is alcohol really banned in Pushkar?
Yes Pushkar is a vegetarian, alcohol-free town out of respect for its religious significance, and meat and eggs aren’t sold within town limits either. It’s worth setting expectations for this in advance, especially if travelers are used to having a drink with dinner.
What's the shopping like in Mandawa and Pushkar, compared to Jaipur?
Jaipur is best for gemstones, formal jewelry, and block-printed textiles at scale. Mandawa offers more local, artisan-level crafts tied to the Havelis tradition. Pushkar’s bazaar is known for silver jewelry, beads, and bohemian-style textiles, reflecting its long history as a stop for pilgrims and travelers alike a genuinely different shopping experience from either city.
What is the stepwell dinner at Rawla Narlai?
It’s the property’s signature evening experience: a private dinner set beside an ancient stepwell, reached by bullock cart or jeep, lit by torches with live local music. It’s bookable as an add-on experience and is one of the most talked-about evenings on this entire route.
Can we do a leopard safari at Narlai?
Yes the hills surrounding Rawla Narlai are known for a resident leopard population, and safaris can be arranged as an optional add-on, typically at dawn or dusk. Sightings aren’t guaranteed, as with any wildlife experience, but they’re reasonably frequent in this area.
What is Ranakpur Jain Temple, and is it worth the stop?
Ranakpur is one of India’s largest and most intricately carved marble Jain temples, with over 1,400 pillars, each individually carved and no two exactly alike. It sits directly on the route between Pushkar and Narlai, making it an easy and worthwhile stop rather than a detour.
Is this itinerary a lot of driving?
It’s a fair amount, yes this route covers more ground than a standard Golden Triangle tour. The longest leg is Mandawa to Pushkar (about 5 hours); the closing drive from Narlai to Udaipur is a much easier 2.5-3 hours, followed by a short flight rather than another long drive.
Why does the tour end in Udaipur instead of Jaipur?
Two reasons: geography and experience. Narlai sits much closer to Udaipur than to Jaipur, so ending there cuts hours off the final drive. It also means the trip closes on Udaipur itself Lake Pichola, the City Palace, and the Lake Palace hotel rather than backtracking to a city you’ve already seen on Day 3.
How do we get from Udaipur to our international flight?
We arrange a short domestic flight from Udaipur to Delhi (around 1.5 hours), timed to connect comfortably with your international departure from Delhi. This is quoted separately from the main package since fares vary by booking date.
Is one night enough in Udaipur?
It’s enough to see the highlights Lake Pichola, the City Palace, and Jagdish Temple comfortably in an afternoon and evening. If Udaipur is a priority for you, we’d recommend adding a second night; it’s an easy adjustment to this itinerary.
What's the best time of year for this route?
October to March offers the most comfortable temperatures across all these regions, including the desert legs around Mandawa and Pushkar. If your dates align with the Pushkar Camel Fair (usually October or November), the town becomes considerably livelier and busier let us know if you’d like to time your trip around it or avoid it.
Is this a private tour, or will we be grouped with other travelers?
Fully private. Your vehicle, driver, and guide are exclusively yours for all 10 days.
What should we wear when visiting temples and the Jain temple at Ranakpur?
Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees at all temple sites. Leather items aren’t permitted inside Ranakpur Jain Temple specifically, in line with Jain religious practice these can be left with your driver.
Can this itinerary be shortened or reordered?
Yes. Mandawa or Pushkar can each be reduced to one night if time is tight, or the route can end in Udaipur or Jodhpur instead of looping back to Jaipur let us know your priorities and available days.
Is the Taj Mahal open every day?
No, it’s closed on Fridays. If your dates fall on a Friday, we’ll adjust the itinerary sequence so you don’t miss it.
What payment methods do you accept?
International card, bank transfer, or Revolut you’ll receive a formal invoice under our registered business name, so there’s no need to carry cash for the full amount.
Do you handle visas as well as the tour itself?
We handle everything on the ground in India hotels, guiding, and private transport. Indian e-visas are applied for independently through the government portal, though we’re glad to advice on the process.
Do you provide travel insurance?
No, this isn’t included. We strongly recommend arranging comprehensive travel insurance, including medical cover, before you depart.
Is airport pickup and drop-off included?
Yes our representative meets you at Delhi airport on arrival, and assists with your transfer to Udaipur airport at the end of the tour for your domestic flight back to Delhi.
